The Tulsa Youth Council was established in the spring of 2000 in order to provide young people in Tulsa with a channel to voice their concerns, needs and desires, and help influence local government decisions that directly affect their lives.

The TYC consists of 21 members who serve for terms of one year. There are two members for each of the nine Council Districts and three members of the City at large, who are appointed by the Mayor. The members of the TYC meet the first and third Tuesday of every month in room 201 of City Hall to discuss issues that need special attention. These young individuals volunteer their time and skills in order to help promote open communication between youth and adults of the City.
