Councilor Vanessa Hall-Harper visited the historic Vernon AME Church in the Greenwood District to welcome the delegation from Tulsa’s newest Sister City, Mwanza, Tanzania. Councilor Hall-Harper is the honorary ambassador for Mwanza and took part in discussions with the delegation.
“I am thrilled to welcome the Mwanza Delegation to Tulsa,” said Councilor Hall-Harper. “I'm happy to celebrate our new sister city relationship, fostering collaboration and shared growth between our vibrant communities.”
In October 2023, former Mayor GT Bynum and a citizen task-force visited Mwanza to identify potential partnership opportunities. The Mwanza delegation will officially be inducted by Mayor Monroe Nichols during their visit to Tulsa this week. Tulsa Global Alliance Executive Director, Micah Keyan, said that this new partnership will open opportunities to cultural and economic exchanges.,
“After the incredible hospitality our Tulsa delegations received in Mwanza, our Tulsa community is excited to reciprocate as we welcome our first delegation from Tulsa’s newest Sister City, Mwanza, Tanzania,” said Keyan. “Years in the making, this partnership engages several parts of our cities, including economic development, education, healthcare, arts, sports, science and technology, tourism, cultural exchanges, and more. I’d like to thank our Mwanza committee volunteers, TGA community partners, City of Tulsa staff, and all Tulsans for coming together to help us strengthen our global community!”
Mwanza, Tanzania, will officially be inducted as Tulsa’s ninth Sister City on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 3pm at the Arvest Convention Center. The public is invited to attend.
